What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is an online text-matching software which enables staff and students to check documents of text matches against the internet material, published journal papers or conference articles, and assignments previously submitted to Turnitin by other students. It is integrated with the University’s e-learning platform Moodle. It helps to maintain academic integrity and uphold the standards of originality in student submissions.

Turnitin is composed of Feedback Studio, Similarity Check and Clarity. Feedback Studio allows instructors to online grade students’ assignments, provide feedback and comments, as well as create quickmarks and rubrics. Enhanced Similarity Report produces a percentage and uses color code to highlight any matches and sources of potential similarity. This helps instructors to identify plagiarism and encourages students to develop proper citation and reference. Clarity student writing tool provides a dedicated writing space to aid students to write essays with proper use of AI assistants. Instructors can analyze their students’ writing process within the platform.
